(NETWORK IN)   After the killings in Las Vegas, you might expect longtime gun control advocate Ed Delaney to resurrect his campaign for new gun controls. But, the State Representative from Indianapolis says no–he’s turning to the defense of the right to public assembly, guaranteed in the First Amendment. He points to the Orlando nightclub, the public school in Connecticutt and now the outdoor rock concert in Las Vegas–each the scene of a mass shooting. He’s not celebrating his surrender on gun control. The veteran legislator says we’re going to do to our hotels what we did to our airports, imposing restrictive and costly security measures.

In light of the Vegas shootings  IMPD and Banker’s Life Fieldhouse are working together to figure out better security measures for when Garth Brooks comes to town. IMPD Sgt. Kendale Adams calls the Vegas massacre “tragic” and with that, you can expect to see an “increased presence” downtown this weekend.  “We’re very fortunate to have a relationship with our large event venues,” Adams says. “We will continue to have discussions as we’ve had and will have in the coming days to discuss what we need to address or plans that we need to adjust.” Garth Brooks is planning to perform five shows in a span of four days at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse. Over 70,000 tickets have been sold.
