Joseph Wells Gill, 81, of Washington, passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2017, at The Villages at Oak Ridge.
He was born May 28, 1936, in Washington, to Charles and Josephine (Wells) Gill. He married Patricia Boyer in 1963.
Joe graduated from Washington Catholic High School in 1954. He then graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1958, with a degree in accounting. Following graduation he served time in the U.S. Army stateside and was involved with the reserves for five years.
Joe owned and operated Washington Greenhouse with his wife Patty, son John, and sister Janet. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the Elks Lodge. He had a love for golf, horse racing, and University of Notre Dame football.
He is survived by his wife,Patty Gill; a daughter, Laurie (Mark) Arnold of Washington; two grandchildren, Cullen and Megan Arnold of Washington; and a brother, Charles Gill of Bloomington.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Josephine Gill; a son, John Gill; a brother, Richard Gill; and a sister, Janet Hayes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Rev. Paul Ferguson as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Cemetery, 101 N. Meridian St., Washington, IN 47501, where Joe spent years decorating the graves of loved ones of our community.
