Local Jail Tax being Lifted

The tax that pays for the Daviess County Security Center is being taken off of county resident’s income tax.

The Washington Times Herald reports today that when the taxes are collected in November and settled in December the county should have enough money on hand to pay off the bonds for the jail.   The .25% special local option income tax has been on the books for over a dozen years to pay the $14 million it cost to add onto the jail between Walnut and VanTrees Streets.

County officials gave credit to a growing job force in Daviess County which is allowing the payoff to happen seven years earlier than planned.
