School Board centered on the eclipse, digital curriculum and personnel matters…

 Students in the Washington school system will have the opportunity to view Monday’s Solar Eclipse.  That was announced at last night’s Washington Community School Board meeting.  The eclipse will block out 96% of the Sun in the local area.   WHS Principal Steve Peterson told WAMW how it’s being handled at the high school…

 

 But Peterson said even those students who forget their permission slips will have an opportunity to take part…

 

 -At the first school board meeting of the the 2017-18 school year, the Washington Community School Board approved publishing the corporations new budget.  A budget hearing is September 7th.

-Assistant School Superintendent Kevin Frank told reported to the Washington School Community School Board last night that the corporation has initiated a K – 12 Digital Citizenship Curriculum. He says it gives students skills to keep them safe on the internet, teach older students how what they post on media can leave a digital footprint that could affect their future, and how to deal with cyber bullying.  Frank said 800 Chrome books have been distributed to students at Washington High School.  

 -In personnel matters, School Superintendent Dr. Daniel Roach announced the resignations of elementary teachers Patty Allen and Jillian Herb, along with IT Assistant Jarred Hobert and WHS Dance Coach R.J. Key.  The Board voted to accept the resignations, but Board members Randy Bouchie and Peg Stephens asked that Allen be granted a leave of absence for one year.  The Board voted 5-2 to accept Allen’s resignation without granting a leave.  The Board approved hiring Lisa Hinderliter as an elementary teacher, along with a long list of non-teaching and ECA appointments.
