Students and staff were never in jeopardy, that’s the word from Washington High School Principal Steve Peterson.

Before the first day of school started yesterday there was a report of a student with a weapon.

The Washington Times Herald  The reports that School Resource Officer John Lagle arrived at 7:45 and was told of the report, he called city police and county departments and they responded within two minutes.

The weapon turned out to be an air soft pistol in the locker of a freshman student.   Guardians were called and the student was removed from school.  A case is being prepared to give to the county prosecutor.  No word on the school’s action against the student.   Peterson did say they are following the school’s handbook to the full extent regarding such incidents.
