Charles Edward “Ed” Kerns

Charles Edward “Ed” Kerns, age 76 of Washington, passed away at 5:42 AM on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Eastgate Manor Nursing Home.

He was born in Paoli on June 11, 1941 to Floyd and Pauline (Elrod) Kerns. He had attended Jasper High School and was a United States Army veteran. He had retired from the Moose Lodge and then went on to work for Med Express. He enjoyed playing pool and spending time with his nieces, nephews and his “baby” dog Bella. Charles was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Mary R. (Kane) Kerns, whom he married June 19, 1965; brother, Bob (Barb) Kerns of Cincinnati, Ohio; five sisters, Shirley (Harry) Megner of Bloomington, Sue (Clyde) Nicholson of Jasper, Sandy (Terry) Heeke of Dubois, Tami (Duane) Knies of Celestine and Sharon Peoples of Shoals; Godchildren, Scott Martin and Abbi Knepp; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother when he was four years old and he was then raised by his father and Leona Kerns and they have preceded him in death; daughter, Michelle Kerns; two brothers, Richard Kerns and David Kerns; sister, Phyllis Keller

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday at Ed Lee Mortuary with Yvonne Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Sugarland Memory Gardens with military graveside rites by the Washington American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Sunday at Ed Lee Mortuary.
