A prisoner in Sullivan County has been charged with a double murder that happened in 1989 in North Carolina.

42-year-old Eric Begley is an inmate at the Sullivan County Jail and reports say a statement from him led authorities to reopen the case which had gone cold.

He told police that in ’89 he killed an elderly married couple, both 79 years old.  North Carolina officials then came to Indiana to question Begley.

He made the confession after being arrested in May for robbing a Sullivan Gas Station.

Begley was apparently a suspect in the past in the Lowell Badger murder in Sullivan County in 2012 as well as a 1981 murder of a Farmersburg woman but he was ruled out as a suspect in those cases.
