Virginia Craney, 80, of Loogootee, passed away at 10:56 p.m. Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Loogootee Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 4, 1936 in Shoals, Indiana to the late Richard and Eva (Johnson) Dwyer.

Virginia was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and St. Joseph Altar Society. She led the Rosary at St. Martin Catholic Church.

She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and gardening. She deeply enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She retired from NSWC Crane after 20 years of employment.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, James E. “Ed” Craney; parents, Richard and Eva (Johnson) Dwyer; brother-in-law, Donald Stearns and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her children, Richard E. (Phyllis) Craney of Jasper, Larry W. (Toni L.) Craney and Jerome L. (Elizabeth S.) Craney, both of Loogootee; grandchildren, Wade (Angela) Buechlein, Clint (Katherine) Buechlein, Eddie (Jeni) Craney, Sarah (Jordan) Vanmeter, Rebecca (Tyson) Hilderbrand, Travis Craney, Corey Craney, Erin Craney and Kyle Craney; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Stearns of Ft. Wayne and Louise (Robert) Abel of Shoals; brother, Jack (Bonnie) Dwyer of Mooresville; sisters-in-law, Patricia Frye of Greenwood, Bernadette (George) Abel of Washington and Deannie (Dean) Trowbridge of Washington.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017 at St. Martin Catholic Church in Whitfield. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Blake Funeral Home in Loogootee.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for Masses.
