Officials pleased with latest Courthouse Annex proposal

 Construction on a building to house county offices could start this fall…

Daviess County’s Courthouse Annex project took another step forward at a joint meeting of the County Council and Commissioners at the Security Center, Wednesday afternoon.

After being surprised at the project’s price at the last joint meeting, the Council and Commissioners were pleased with what Jonathan Lamar of Lamar Architecture presented Wednesday.  The plans presented cut approximately $2 million from the overall cost on what is now a proposed 34,390 sq. ft. project.   Commissioner Nathan Gabhart…

        The new configuration has the Treasurer, Recorder, Auditor, Assessor and mapping offices on the top floor, with meeting rooms, the Health Department and Extension offices on the main floor.

         The Annex is needed to provide the county with state mandated storage, along with increased need for office space.  If all things fall into line the County would like to break ground on the project this fall on the lot just northeast of the courthouse.
