Commissioners vote to build an annex at 3rd and Hefron

The Daviess County Commissioners in a joint meeting with the county council, officially voted to pursue a standalone building project for a courthouse annex capped at a cost of 8-million dollars.

The structure will be located at 3rd and Hefron. What type of building and whether it will have a central dispatch center for emergency services remains to be decided.  It will definitely be the new home for the county auditor, recorder, treasurer and assessor’s offices.

Architects and designers today presented three options all of which were described as over the top of what is needed and wanted.  After some discussion and comments,  it was pretty much agreed a two story structure with a basement with a total of about 42,000 square feet would be sufficient.

No other decisions were made today other than to pursue the one building project.
