Gateway Drive on the east side of Washington has not been in existence too long, and soon it will have a new name. Washington Mayor Joe Wellman made the announcement at Monday’s City Council meeting…

Jones graduated from WC in 1966 and IU in 1970.  Jones then had a long and distinguished career in Army Aviation serving in Operation Desert Storm, Bosnia, and Europe.   A committee consisting of Mike McKittrick, Kenny Frye, Steve Riney, and Charlie Selby has been working on a way for the city to honor Jones.  The committee also recommended a plaque detailing Jones’s military record on East Side Parks Hill of Heroes.

In addition to renaming the street, a 40 foot flagpole and plaque honoring service men and woman, veterans and first responders will be erected in the center of the roundabout. McKittrick of the aforementioned committee,  said they are in the process of raising donations for the flagpole and the monument at the park.
