Three Jasper teens became stranded in a strong current in high water in the Patoka River while kayaking on Sunday in Dubois County.

Conservation Officers report the three were downstream of Dubois County Road 300-north when one of the kayaks turned over and drifted downstream after hitting a low lying limb at water level. One of the kayakers later advised it was his first time kayaking.  Brandon M. Jochim, Nicholas C. Day and Seth L. Hill all 18 and all of Jasper were left holding on to two kayaks for about an hour and a half.  They were rescued by conservation officers in a jon boat.   They were taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital but did not have any major injuries.  None were wearing life jackets at the time of the 5:20-pm incident.
