Eugene “Gene” L. Welp, 81, passed away at 11:20 am on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Gene was born on July 10, 10 1935 in St. Marks, IN the son of Clement and Cornelia (Schulte) Welp. He married LaVerne Fleck on June 12, 1958.
Gene was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Montgomery and he started Washington Auto Trim in September of 1960, and owned and operated it for over fifty-six years. He also was a member of the Park and Spark Car Club and a fifty-year member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Welp of Washington; son, Keith Welp and his wife Mitzi of Washington; daughter, Sheri Fields and her husband Rocky of Washington; brother, Don Welp and his wife Joan of Jasper; sister, Kathy Wanninger and her husband Joe of Jasper; grandchildren, Brittany Bean and her husband Luke, Brittany Derr and her husband Chris, Todd Clark, Luke Fields, Emily Fields, Mikel Alcantar, Maria Alcantar; and six great grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Joseph Welp, grandson, Ryan Keith Welp and a sister, Darlene Senninger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5:00 pm on Monday, April 17, 2017 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 305 North 2nd Street, Montgomery, IN with Rev. James Koressel celebrating. Friends may visit with Genes family on Monday, from 3:00 pm until the start of the Funeral Mass of 5:00 pm and at the conclusion of the Funeral Mass until 8:00 pm at the church. A private burial will be held at a later date at Sugarland Memory Gardens. Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway, Vincennes has been entrusted with Genes final arrangements.
