Daviess County Council creates CASA Coordinator position

Due to what Daviess County Circuit Court Judge Greg Smith called a spike in the number of children in need of services, the Daviess County Council approved a new position and appropriated $40,000 for a Court Appointed Special Advocate Guardian to help coordinate the CASA program and volunteers.  CASA volunteers represent the interests of children when matters bring families to court.  Judge Smith noted that while parents have lawyers, the children, who Smith called “our most vulnerable citizens” often, don’t have anyone to advocate for their best interests when the parents appear in court for one reason or the other.
