Storms cause damage throughout the area

High winds have caused havoc throughout the area this morning and last night.

About 4:45 this morning high winds knocked down power lines, limbs and trees.  The incidents knocked out power and backed up traffic in several areas.  No injuries reported in Washington due to the storms.

As the storm moved on, it knocked down poles and trees and caused power outages in Martin County.   A tree fell on a house there.

The small town of Ireland in Dubois County sustained major damage.  There was a tree reported down on a house there along with numerous, trees, and limbs down.  Dubois County authorities told us they believe it was a tornado that caused the damage.

It was the same in Martin County where roads were blocked and power was out .  A house was destroyed by a falling tree there as well.

In Pike County authorities say that 356 between Pike County Roads 700-east and 825-East was shut down due to power lines down. There were numerous power outages in and around the Petersburg area which continued on into today.

Knox County reported no major problems due to weather last night or this morning.

In Gibson County dispatchers say there was a confirmed tornado outside the Owensville which damaged or destroyed some homes.  There were at least two weather related injuries caused by that storm.
