A crowd, mainly from Odon was on hand at last evening’s Area Plan Commission meeting to complain about Parson’s Moto-Cross Track.  The residents started their fight about a year and a half ago when the County’s Board of Zoning Appeals permitted construction of the track.  Certain limitations were applied, but the neighbors say those have been ignored by the track owner.  As those living around the track were preparing a legal challenge, the Daviess County Commissioners changed the zoning ordinance so the track was permitting without limitations.

At issue for the neighbors is noise and dust from the facility as the track continues to grow.  The residents feel they are being ingored by county officials.  One neighbor, Michael Leighty addressed the APC last night..

Leighty went on to say that Sunday morning races at the track caused a church nine-tenths of a mile away to turn up its sound system because the pastor’s voice was being drowned out by noisee from the track.  Leighty also said that property values near the track have dropped as a result of the track being in operation.   Since the Plan Commission is only Advisory, the neighbors in the area of the track asked for a special public meeting with the County Commissioners who have final say over zoning issues in the unincorporated areas of the county.

The County Commissioners meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 9-am at the courthouse.  The APC meets every 4th Thursday night of the month at 6 at the courthouse.
