Daviess County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius gave the County Commissioners Tuesday a report on enhanced snow removal options ranging from extended hours for trucks and grader drivers to the county constructing its own brine plant. Cornelius said that brine and salt building could cost the county around $470,000.  A Brine system alone could run around $50,000.   Cornelius estimated that having employees out removing snow on extended hours could cost the county about $35,000 annually.   At the end of the discussion, the Commissioners decided to authorize extended hours for snow removal.  County road graders will operate from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. and sand and salt trucks will be in the road from 7a.m. to 7 p.m. on days that snow impacts the county roads.

In other road related actions, the Commissioners agreed to a CSX request for the incorporation of an additional paragraph into the deed for ground on the northwest corner of the 15th Street Bridge project.  They also approved a contract for right of way inspection for Phase III of the Odon-Cannelburg Road project.  INDOT will reimburse the county 80% of the $869,000 cost.
