New jobs are coming to Daviess County if the Daviess County Commissioners approve the action of the county’s Advisory Plan Commission.

Monday night the Plan Commission approved a request to rezone six acres of land in the WestGate Tech Park from B-1 Commercial to I-1 light Industrial.    Speaking for the developers, Dale Akrom said the Alion Science and Technology chose Daviess County as the location for its Indiana operations.   Akrom said Alion services and rehabs air conditioning components for aircraft.

Akrom said jobs would number 12 in the first year, 20 in the second and eventually over 60.

Daviess County’s Economic Development Director Ron Arnold,  said the fact that Alion is not affiliated with Crane opens up a whole new dynamic at the Tech Park.  While there was no comment at the public hearing held last night… the Advisory Plan Commission did receive a letter from adjoining residents voicing opposition to the change The opposition was from an elderly couple concerning  increased traffic in the area.   The Daviess County Commissioners will vote on the Plan Commission’s recommendation to approve the zoning change at their meeting on December 27.
