Washington takes more steps in planning for the future

 

 

EAST SIDE EASEMENTS APPROVED

City government continues to work toward the improvements on the east side of town near I69. Last night the Board of Public Works and Safety approved some easements concerning that area. Washington Mayor Joe Wellman…


The easements are needed to partly accommodate M & C Tech, the Japanese firm that announced they would locate here to make plastic parts for the automotive industry. They are looking to start construction soon on about six acres.


 

CITY ADDS TO RAINY DAY FUND

The city of Washington transferred $400,000 from the General Fund to the Rainy Day Fund last night. The move was suggested recently by financial consultants Umbaugh and Associates as a way to save and plan for the future.

In other matters, the city council had final reading of ordinances on which department heads and city officials can use city credit cards and the recent ordnance on unsafe buildings.
The council approved some year-end appointements. Anita Ash to the Daviess County Economic Development Commission; Pete Parsons to the City Economic Development Commission; tom Tucker and Rick Powers to the City Redevelopment Commission and Council Member Blake Chambers to the Downton Design Review Committee.


 

HOUSING PROJECT  CONSTRUCTION BIDS AWARDED

Eight bids for the Owner Occupied Housing project in Washington were approved by the Washington Board of Works last night.                 Washington Mayor Joe Wellman says the program will help low to moderate income homeowners….

The bids were awarded to Anderson Construction, USA Construction and K.D. Mendenall Contractors.
