Organization Day held Tuesday at the Statehouse

Indiana lawmakers have returned to the Statehouse to prepare for the January legislative session, declaring an expansion of the state’s pre-K program and increasing funding for roads as priorities.

The session won’t begin in earnest until January. But every year lawmakers gather in November for Organization Day, which was held on Tuesday.

Republican House Speaker Brian Bosma says revenue projections are showing a downward trend that could make the next two-year budget tighter than in recent years.

Bosma says finding a way to pay for improvements to the state’s roads and bridges is one of his biggest priorities. He’s previously said an increase to cigarette and gas taxes could be the source.
