Helen Jones, 97, of Washington, passed away at 12:55 p.m. at The Villages at Oakridge Friday.

 

She was born Oct. 21, 1919, in Daviess County to Timothy Brennan and Agnes (Miller) Brennan. She graduated from Washington High School in 1937 and Vincennes University in 1939. She earned a master’s degree from Oakland City University and an undergraduate degree from Indiana State University. She married Lester D. ‘Buster’ Jones on Sept. 13, 1945. She retired from the Washington School system. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope, D of I, VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a regent for the D of I for 15 years.

She is survived by four sons, Tony and Nancy Jones of Huntsville, Alabama; Tim and Leslie Jones of Dade City, Florida; Terry Jones of Washington and Tom and Ordette Jones of Lebanon, Indiana; eight grandchildren,16 great-grandchildren and one-great -great granddaughter.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Buster Jones on Dec. 7, 1989; sisters, Mary Alice Norris, Margaret Dant and Ruth Combs.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Monday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church with Father Paul Ferguson as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Ed Lee Mortuary. In lieu donations may be sent Washington Catholic Education Endowment at P.O. Box 916 Washington, IN, 47501.
