City council receives good news on wastewater bonds

Washington Mayor Joe Wellman had some good news last night for the city council concerning wastewater bonds…

In other action last night the City’s Board of Works and Public Safety approved a request concerning a variance on property being developed for a residence between 5-East Viola and 201 East Viola.

The city building commissioner explained that the property owner is building a home on the ground where the proposed driveway is actually a platted city street however no street exists there.   Under current ordinances and laws the driveway would have to be built to city street standards so the request was made for a variance.  The Board of Works agreed to a plan put together by the property owner city building and street commissioners and engineer.  The driveway would need to be concrete or paved, be at least 20 feet wide and drainage would need to go south so as not to run off on adjacent property owners. Also a stop sign would need to be installed in the area. All of that would be paid for at the owners expense.  It will also be added to the deed when the property is sold that the city will not be responsible for maintaining the driveway, which again would be located on a platted city street.
