Blighted home destruction to resume in the city

Washington Mayor Joe Wellman told the city council last night the contractor working on the blighted home project in Washington is back in town. Yesterday he said they took down a structure at 1717 McCormick. This week they’ll continue some work on McCormick as well as on 10th and West Walnut. The city is using grant money received from the state’s blight elimination fund to pay for the work.

Meanwhile, it was also announced last night that to date this year the city has sent out 72 clean up notices to property owners in town and 699 orders to mow.

Also mark your calendar for November 15th. That’s the first date of leaf pickup in the city. Residents are reminded that leaves must be raked to the curb, not into the street area. The areas for pick up will be published in the Washington Times Herald. There will be two (2) complete rounds made through the city streets and one (1) complete round through the alleys. If you have any questions, please contact the Street Department at 254-4564.
