Marilyn L. Pride, 77, of Washington, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday at the Villages at Oak Ridge.
She was born Jan. 13, 1939, in Washington, to Floyd D. and Ganelle (Smith) Fox. She attended St. Simon grade school and graduated in 1957 from Washington Catholic High School. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and Caring and Sharing Group. Marilyn volunteered as a collection counter of the church. She was a former employee at G.C. Murphy’s, Uniroyal, and for K-mart as a cashier-bookkeeper for 15 years. She also worked for Washington Community School Corporation at Lena Dunn where she retired in 2005.
Marilyn enjoyed NASCAR, reading, crocheting, and crafts.
Marilyn is survived by two brothers, Ralph D. Fox of Plainville and Robert E. “Bob'” (Irene) Fox of Washington; two stepdaughters, Donna R. Pride of Plainville and Stacy D. Padgett of Washington; step grandchildren, Jordan R. Pride of Plainville, Brody Padgett and Brylee Padgett, both of Washington; stepgreat-grandchildren, Shayleigh Pride and Parker Pride.
Her husband, Charles R. “Charlie” Pride, whom she married Oct.6, 1978, preceded her in death on July 27, 2012. She is also preceded in death by her parents and grandfather, Alfonso L. Smith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Friday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, with Rev. Paul Ferguson as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the church.
