Washington dedicates Solar Park

IMPA’s largest Solar Park will supply power to 450 homes.

Surrounded by more than 100 students from the three junior high and middle schools, Washington Mayor Joe Wellman, Indiana Municipal Power Agency president Raj Rao,  and other state and local officials, cut a red ribbon and officially opened the Washington Solar Park Thursday afternoon. Washington’s Solar is located next to Perdue on Cosby Road. It consists of nearly 16,000 solar panels on 23 acres of land.

Rao noted that solar energy technology has been around for 50 to 60 years, however, it was expensive..


In 1983 Washington was one of the 26 communities that founded the Indiana Municipal Power Agency The Agency allows member communities to keep electricity costs as low as possible.
