School Board approves budget and hears a positive report on Chrome Books

In regular business at Thursday’s Washington School Board meeting, Board members approved the proposed budget.

Superintendent Dr. Dan Roach said the advertised tax levy of 1.82 is slightly lower than last year’s levy.   Roach also noted that with Friday being the official count day, the Washington Community Schools will report an official increase of 50 students over last year’s enrollment.

In personnel action, the Board accepted the resignation of Michelle LeMond as an elementary teacher, and granted a medical leave to Mike Gregory.

The Board also heard the systems technology director, Chad Smith, and Junior High Principal Mark Arnold report on the successful implementation of Chrome Books into the curriculum for grades 6, 7, and 8.  Arnold said the Chrome Books allow to individualize instruction, and students to learn while collaborating from different locations.

The Board also approved an inter local agreement with the City of Washington to continue the SRO program.

In other business, the Board agreed to advertise an intention to sell a small strip of land behind the YMCA to the Y, and granted the NJROTC to attend two out of state rifle competitions.
