Washington Mayor continues to work on 50

As we look down the road to fall and winter, the condition of that road is on the mind of many, especially if it’s Business 50 through Washington.

Currently the road is owned by the state, and Washington Mayor Joe Wellman is the 4th Mayor that’s told the state, if you fix it up, the city will take it over.  Since the bypass has been built, the state wants the city to have the main thoroughfare through town.  So, Mayor Wellman has been taking steps to see what it would take to do more than just “fix” it..because the city does not want to take it over in the shape it’s in..

Wellman says it could take 20 million dollars to re-build the road and do it right.  However he’s hoping for a joint effort as the city cannot pay for it all.  Wellman told us last weekend he had meetings scheduled this week to get an update on the issue.  There will be some public information meetings and hearings on fixing the road and he encourages the public to attend those when they are scheduled sometime in the future.
