Truckers who violate a new ordinance are subject to a $100 fine.

Since the opening of I69, truck drivers trying to save 3/10 of a mile have been taking Daviess County Road 550 E as a short cut between State Road 57 and State Road 58 and the I-69 interchange.  That road is not designed for heavy traffic and has caused damage to the road’s surface.  The Daviess County Commissioners yesterday passed an ordinance placing “No Thru Trucks” signs on 550-east between 1440-north and 1500-north.  They directed the sheriff’s department to enforce the ordinance and punish drivers who violated it with $100 fines. Farms and businesses along 550 E will still be able to use the road.

In the county engineering report, County Engineer Jason Heile  reported on Knox County’s repair of the Old Vincennes Road Bridge.  All residents now have temporary access and pavement on the road has been removed on the Daviess County side to align the road.  In addition, in response to a question about Washington’s 15th Street Bridge, Heile reported a contract proposal has been received from CSX, and a public information meeting is potentially set for September.

The Commissioners also heard Mark Williams with TruRX who discussed the prescription program and Paul Williams with Hoosier Insurance gave report on the County’s health insurance program.  Based on the past year’s experience Paul Williams recommended no changes in the employees health insurance for the next year.  However, Williams did suggest the addition of a high deductible lane for those who elect to choose it.  Williams also suggested maximizing patient assistance programs when dealing with specialty drugs.

County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius and County Engineer Jason Heile reported on progress on Odon Cannelburg Road project.   Heile also reported on Knox County’s repair of the Old Vincennes Road bridge.  All residents now have temporary access and pavement on the road has been removed on the Daviess County side to align the road.  And in response to a question about Washington’s 15th Street Bridge, Heile reported a contract proposal has been received from CSX, and a public information meeting is potentially set for September.
In other business, the Commissioners accepted the resignation of Jerry Lynch and named Phil Cornelius as his replacement on the Daviess-Martin Park Board.
