Odon Human Remains Positively Identified

In a press release issued this morning, the human remains found in Odon, Indiana on April 7, 2015, have been positively identified being those of Ira Freeman Kemp.

The positive identification was made by using extensive DNA testing done by the University of Northern Texas. Ira Kemp was reported missing on or about January 25, 1981. The Sheriff’s Department says the incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Assisting the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation are the Odon Police Department, the University of Indianapolis Archaeology and Forensic Laboratory, Indiana State Police, Daviess County Coroner’s Office, Terre Haute Regional Hospital, and the University of Northern Texas Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics.

Family members have been notified. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon, Indiana.
