A Jasper man learned that lying to a police officer only makes things worse after an early Tuesday morning encounter with the Indiana State Police.

About 12:15 a.m. Tuesday morning, Indiana State Police made a traffic stop on a Dodge mini-van for speeding and expired plates.   When asked for his license, the driver identified himself as Anthony Gentry and told the Trooper he did not have his license. During the conversation the Trooper suspected that Gentry was intoxicated.  A field Sobriety test indicated a BAC of .14%.   Gentry was taken to the Dubois County Jail, where during booking, Jail personnel located a drivers license indicating the diver was Brian Eugene Gentry and that the Bureau of Motor Vehicles had him listed as a Habitual Traffic Violator.  Upon the discovery of his true identity,  Gentry’s misdemeanor DUI charge was enhanced to a felony. He also faces additional charges of Operating while a Habitual Traffic Violator, a felony, along with misdemeanor charges of false informing, and failure to identify himself. He was lodged in the Dubois County Security Center.
