Damage held to one room, an occupant did suffer some burns.

Three fire departments fought a fire on Edwardsport Road this morning.

Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tony Wichman says the call came in at 5:37-am.  They arrived to find flames coming from one room.  The blaze was knocked down quickly before it spread too far.  He says the one room was gutted and there is likely around $50,000 damage.  Wichman says the home is one of two historical homes in that area.  He says it’s likely the original home was built 150 years ago.

Wichman determined the cause as accidental due to human error.  The home is owned by Mark Traylor and was occupied by a female who did suffer some burns to the feet and refused medical treatment.

Wichman went on to say that the woman was very lucky.  He says usually when a person is burned in a fire; they have already succumbed to smoke inhalation.  He says there were no smoke alarms or detectors in the home.   Washington Township was assisted by the Plainville and Washington’s Fire Department.

The incident shut down Edwardsport Road from the Sports Complex to St. John’s Road for about 4 hours.
