William O. “Bud” Hand, 83, of Washington

William O. “Bud” Hand, 83, of Washington, IN, went to his Heavenly Home on April 18, 2016 with his family by his side. 

He was born on October 21, 1932 in Daviess County, IN, to William O. and Rose Ella (Grove) Hand. 

On September 18, 1954 Bud married the love of his life Beverly Sue McFarland, and she survives. 

He graduated from Washington High School in 1950. Upon graduation he joined the United States Air Force. He worked as a Carpenter/Millwright before going to work for B&O Railroad/ US Railway. He then went to work for Hoosier Energy as a Store Room Supervisor and then was a self-employed Contractor. Bud was a member of Free Methodist Church. He was a life member and Past Master of Glendale F & AM Lodge #461, and O.E.S. American Legion, Lifetime member of the Loyal Order of Moose where he held every office at the local level and served as Governor five times. Bud earned the coveted Pilgrim Degree, and in 2000 served as State President of the Indiana Moose Association. He served on the Selective Service Board for 25 years. He was a member of Scottish Rite, Hadi Shrine, Daviess County Shrine Club, and Voiture 40 & 8 #107 of Vincennes, IN. Bud loved his family, friends, and was an avid Antique collector. He enjoyed his old cars and followed Hatchet Basketball for many years.

Bud is survived by his wife, Beverly Sue Hand, children Roger D. (Sandy) Hand, Lisa Hand and Holly (Paul) Edwards. Grandchildren, Amber (Greg) Stillions, Roger A. (Courtney) Hand, William O. Edwards and Alixandra Edwards. Great-Grandchildren, Dalelen Hand, Jaxson Stillions, Hadlee Hand and Leelen Hand and sister Faye Clark. He is preceded in death by his parents, William O. Rose Ella (Grove) Hand, siblings Wilmer, Wilbert, Robert, and Donald Hand, Edith Dillion, Beulah White, and Ruth Watkins, and grandson Vincent Edwards.

The funeral service for Bud will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Free Methodist Church, 1155 Troy Rd, Washington, IN 47501, at 11:00am with Pastor William Stotts and Rev. Dr. Fred White officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 4-8pm at Gill Funeral Home, 308 E. Walnut Street, Washington, IN 47501 and also prior to the funeral service at the church from 10-11am. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to a charity of choice.
