High Speed Chase Ends in Single-Vehicle Accident on I-69

A section of I-69 is back open after a wreck involving the suspect in a pursuit.

According to Indiana State Police, the suspect, who was wanted on a warrant out of Lawrence County, was spotted Tuesday morning by a Daviess County, IN deputy.

We’re told the deputy tried to stop the suspect’s vehicle, but the suspect took off down I-69 at speeds reaching 100 mph.

Authorities were able to radio ahead and troopers set up stop stick between the 37.5 and 38 mile markers, near the Pike/Gibson line. When the suspect ran over them he lost control and crashed into the side of a bridge over the Patoka River.

Troopers say the suspect then got out of his vehicle and tried to jump off the bridge, but they were able to pull him back just as he was about to go over the side.

The suspect was then taken to St. Mary’s to be treated for minor injuries. He’ll be taken to jail once he is released from the hospital.

ISP says officers and deputies from several departments helped troopers with the chase, which spanned a distance of about 50 miles by the time it came to an end.

The southbound lanes of I-69 were shut down in the area while crews worked the scene of the wreck, but the lanes have since reopened.
