Suspicious Device Shuts Down Part of Downtown Washington

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Crane Naval Weapons Base Bomb Squad was called to investigate a suspicious device found at a construction site at the corner of Main and Highway 57 in Downtown Washington on Thursday.Construction workers discovered the item in question attached to the rafters of the building that will house the new Daviess Community Hospital Rehabilitation Center. . We are told Washington City Police investigated and decided to err on the side of caution and contacted the Crane Base for support. A bomb squad was dispatched. After investigating it was determined there was no threat. Intereim Washington Police Chief Todd Church said the suspicious device was made of two dowel rods and featured a watch face and battery affixed to the device with brittle tape.  It had been at the site for years.  Traffic was closed on the first block of Main Street for about three hours Thursday afternoon during the investigation.
