Negotiations on how to boost Indiana road funding are expected to continue as lawmakers enter the final days of their legislative session.
Lawmakers are set to meet Monday morning at the Statehouse to discuss differing House and Senate proposals for financing road improvements.
A plan endorsed by majority Republicans in the House would boost Indiana’s 18-cent per-gallon gasoline tax by 4 pennies and add $1 to the per-pack cigarette tax. Republican Gov. Mike Pence and the GOP-controlled Senate have opposed tax increases.
The Senate could vote Monday on a proposal to increase Indiana’s cap on medical malpractice payments for the first time since the 1990s.
Another unsettled issue involves under what circumstances police departments will be allowed to withhold police video recordings from the public.
