Holcomb to be named Pence’s running mate

One day after quitting the race for U.S. Senate, Eric Holcomb will have a new job, at least if the governor wins re-election. Holcomb reportedly will announce today (Tues-1:30pm) that he will be Governor Pence’s running mate for the 2016 election. What that means for current Lt. Gov. Sue Elspermann isn’t known yet. Holcomb formally pulled out of the Senate race half an hour before the noon deadline to get his name off the May primary ballot. His withdrawal leaves Republicans with a two-way race between Congressmen Marlin Stutzman and Todd Young.

If Holcomb becomes Pence’s running mate, that means two Knox County natives are on the gubernatorial ballot. Holcumb is a Vincennes native and of course Democrat Candidate for governor John Gregg is from Sandborn
