Daviess County to hold Tax Certificate Sale

Coming up next Tuesday, the 9th, The Daviess County Commissioners will have a live tax certificate sale.  It’s a sale of delinquent properties that did not sell during the regular county tax sale last year.

State law says county commissioners can sell off tax liens on delinquent properties that are still unsold and unpaid from the previous year’s tax sale.

The Tax Certificate Sale will be at 10-am on Tuesday February 9th in the Commissioner’s room at the courthouse.  There’ll be 28 certificates for sale.

Daviess County Auditor, Elaine Wellman, says the intent is to offer the properties at discounted prices in order to collect back taxes and return the properties to the tax rolls. Opening bids will need to equal less than the total amount due in delinquent taxes, costs and penalties.

In addition to serving as a source for local governments to collect unpaid property tax, the sales also serve as a chance for real estate investors to earn interest income upon redemption of the property within a certain time frame.
