Her friends and family – and probably many, many others – will say goodbye to Susan Jordan on Saturday.

The funeral for the principal of Amy Beverland Elementary School will be Saturday at 3:00pm. The service will be held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church at 86th and Meridian – visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 2:00pm until 8:00pm.

The church will likely be packed with those who knew and loved Jordan. She was killed Tuesday afternoon when she was hit by a school bus that had accidentally jumped a curb in the school parking lot as students were about to head home. The bus driver told police that Jordan, 69, pushed students out of harm’s way before she was hit. Two students were hurt, but they are expected to recover.

Police still don’t know what caused the accident – IMPD cited “operator error” in its initial report, but police say the investigation will take time to complete.

Governor Pence visited the school on Wednesday even though it was closed, as were all Lawrence Township schools out of respect for Jordan. Pence ordered all flags in Marion County lowered to half-staff in her memory.

Rather than give flowers, Amy Beverland Elementary has asked that you donate a book to the school library or to the library of any other Lawrence Township school.
