Commissioners making changes to insurance

The main topic of discussion at Monday’s Daviess County Commissioner’s meeting was the adoption of changes in the county’s health insurance program.  The changes have been proposed by the Insurance Committee.

According to Paul Williams of Hoosier Insurance the county’s medical coverage had increased by $150,000.  To control the cost, the committee recommended an increase in the plan’s deductible and co-pays which could add another $1000 to an employee’s out of pocket health costs.  However, if an employee uses Daviess Community Hospital or St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, the employee will see no increase in either deductible or co-pay.   According to Williams, the cost of using DCH services and labs is 15% lower than other nearby medical facilities.

The Daviess County Commissioners have passed a resolution declaring December 11th as Indiana Statehood Day.  A statewide Bicentennial Flag Ceremony is scheduled for noon on that day  to mark the beginning of Indiana’s Bicentennial Year.

In regular business, on Monday the Commissioners adopted new credit card and personnel policies.  Commissioner Nathan Gabhart said the new personnel policy has no major changes, but clarifies areas of confusion in the old policy.  The Commissioners also approved grant requests for the Health and Sheriff’s Departments.

In Highway Department news, County Highway Superintendent Phil Cornelius told the Commissioners that touch up work still needs to be done on the CR 1200 East project. He did ask the Sheriff’s Department to continue with a speed study on the road.   Cornelius also said the Highway Department is ready to assemble the asphalt plant and was given permission to use money in the Commissioner’s Building Fund to pay part of the construction expenses.
