A prominent group of Indiana-based Christians is speaking out against Governor Pence’s move refusing admission to Syrian refugees. Christian Church of the Disciples of Christ released a statement Friday. Spokesperson Cherilyn Willams says their opposition to the Governor’s move isn’t based on politics or conservative vs. liberal ideology, but on “the attitude of fear that seems to be prevalent.” Williams says Syrians are “our brothers and sisters as God’s children” and they deserve to be welcomed and loved. Williams says they advocate for compassion and a “wise vetting of the folks that come in” U.S. borders. Disciples of Christ also took a strong stance against the Governor’s early actions on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
