West Nile Virus has reached Daviess County

West Nile Virus is in Daviess County.

State health officials have confirmed that mosquitoes in the county have tested positive for the virus.

Make sure you take steps to protect yourselves as this is the prime sesason for the virus to strike.

Try to avoid being outdoors in late afternoon or from dusk to dawn.  Wear insect repellent containing the chemical DEET.  Wear long sleeves clothes and pants if your outside in prime mosquito times and areas.   Repair or place screen doors with holes in them.  Also make sure you rid your yards and property of items that could hold standing water.

 

The State Health Department says most that are infected with West Nile won’t develop symptoms.  Thos who do become ill will get a milder form of the illness that can cause fever, headache, body aches, swollen lymph nodes or a rash.  A small number of people can develop a more severe form of the disease, albeit that is rare.
