Washington Community Schools Superintendent, Dr. Dan Roach reported the school year was off to a smooth start.  But, Roach had some stern words for the State’s testing system.

Roach said that the ISTEP results won’t be ready until the middle of October and the schools may not see the results until December.   Roach says the data is important to plan for this year.  He says even though teachers are doing a good job,  and know what to work on…they don’t have the specific information on flaws and trouble spots

Roach says that given the multitude of changes of the testing, the

Governor should not have gone against the recommendation of federal and state educational experts in demanding the flawed test be used for evaluations.

Roach even said the delay in getting test results could cause stall the process in finalizing which teachers are eligible for raises.  He says teacher contracts will be status quo at least through the first semester.

Roach says ultimately he doesn’t know if the testing is reflective of the work of students or teachers and everyone should be given credit because of the questionable results.
