A Knox County man is in jail in Shoals after telling a state trooper last week that he was a reserve deputy.

On August 7th, 48-year-old Robert Neukam of Freelandville was stopped on US 231 in Martin County for not using a turn signal during a lane change.

During the stop, Neukam gave Trooper Jarrod Lents an ID card identifying himself as a Knox County Reserve Deputy. He told the trooper he’d left his badge at home.

After checking with the Knox County Sheriff’s Department Trooper Lents learned that Neukam had not been a reserve deputy for two years and his badge had been taken ty the Knox County Sheriff.

A warrant was executed and served and state police reported yesterday that Neukam was arrested  for a felony charge of impersonation of a public servant and lodged in the Martin County Jail.
