Back to school…stay safe……

back-to-school

It’s the first day of school for students in Washington.  Watch for the extra traffic  as students, teachers and school staff get back on track for another school years.

Indiana State Police Captain Dave Bursten says it’s a matter of always driving as if it were your own child waiting at that bus stop—and by that he means slowing down, being respectful, and obeying the law when the bus is stopping He reminds us that school  buses will flash yellow warning lights when they are getting ready to stop.

. Then of course when the bus has stopped you have to as well. The only exception is multiple lane roads with a physical median or divider, but Bursten still says drivers should slow down for the sake of caution. Also remember that children don’t think like adults

Bursten says if you choose to break these laws—you will likely encounter and officer with their own children—and they will have no problem writing you a hefty ticket.

Pike County Schools are back in session today as well.
