A group of construction workers escaped injury when strong winds toppled a 20-foot wall that’s part of a grocery store they’re building in Terre Haute.

The workers were gathering next to the wall about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday when a small storm swept in with high winds and rain.

Project supervisor Mark Murphy of CR Crawford Construction says wind gusts of about 35 mph toppled the concrete block wall, which fell toward the new building’s interior.

Murphy says the partially built wall had not yet been braced.

He says more work hours will have to be added to get the wall back up, but that won’t delay completion of the 30,000-square foot store.
