Purdue experts say Indiana corn and soybean farmers should check their stored grains frequently because of heavy rains and humidity in the state.

Purdue University Extension specialists says spoilage can happens during the summer when conditions are wet. Experts say sunlight during the day heats the space inside grain bins and when temperatures drop at night condensation forms. That moisture can cause the spoilage.

Farmers should check grain bins weekly and maybe even run a ventilation fan.

The Purdue experts also caution farmers to work in teams when they inspect or check grain bins to avoid getting trapped.
