Huntingburg man sentenced in connection with fatal crash

A Dubois County man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison in connection with a fatal crash last year north of Ferdinand.

The crash killed 60-year-old Donna M. Evans of Cannelton, Indiana.

Accident reports stated that 24-year-old Brandon Chamberlain of Huntingburg was north on State Road 162 in a pickup when the truck went left of center into the path of Evans’ Buick.   An ATV in the back of Chamberlain’s truck became airborne and hit a third vehicle driven by Donna Trafton of Ferdinand.  The ATV crashed through her windshield and bounced off.  She suffered two broken vertebrae in the incident.

Chamberlain was sentenced Wednesday to 11 years.  The Evansville Courier and Press reports Dubois Superior Court Judge Mark McConnell ordered Chamberlain to serve 7 years in jail followed by two years on work release and two on probation.

Chamberlain had pleaded guilty to operating while intoxicated and operating whil e intoxicated causing serious bodily injury.

He’ll wear an alcohol monitoring device for a year.
