County council discusses volunteer fire dispatch equipment

A requested upgrade in the dispatch equipment used by the county’s volunteer fire departments took up most of today’s meeting of the Daviess County Council.

Washington Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Doug Terrell explained the current pager system relies on 1960’s technology and in several instances has resulted in misunderstood addresses.

The new system proposed by Terrell and Washington Township Volunteer Fire Chief David Grey would use smart phone technology and work with the mapping system at the Daviess County Sheriff Departments Dispatch Center when sending firemen to an emergency.

Terrell and Grey assured Council President Mike Sprinkle that the system could also be used by all volunteer departments in the county.           The Council agreed to appropriate $11,000 from the county’s E-911 fund to cover the cost of the new system.

In other business, the Council approved a restructuring of salaries for the staff at West Bogg’s Park, and approved additional appropriations for Courtroom repairs, emergency management equipment, dust control on county roads, and County Economic Development Income Tax bonds.
