A woman arrested after trying to swim away from accident scene

A woman was jailed after crashing her car in a ditch and trying to swim away.

Dubois County authorities say it all started at 11:40 last night in the area of Dubois County Roads 350-west and 100-south in Jasper.  A witness called dispatch saying a female motorist wa reported to be intoxicated and was trying to drive away.  The motorist identified later as Shannon Stuckey became irate with the caller and did drive away.

Officers arrived to find her Chevy Blazer halfway in a stream.  It was determined that she had hit a Dubois County Highway gate set up to keep people from driving on the Old Huntingburg Road.  She had gone through a second gate before crashing into a ditch.

Stuckey was located about 50 to 100 yards north of the accident and appeared to have attempted to get away by swimming in the stream.  She was located on the bank, determined to be intoxicated and taken to the Dubois County Jail. She tested .25 blood alcohol content
