Eleven sidewalk replacement projects were approved by the Washington Board of Public Works and Safety Monday night.

Washington Mayor Joe Wellman reminds residents that the city has budgeted about fifty thousand dollars to pay for work in the Sidewalk Replacement program.  It’s basically a partnership between the city and the homeowner to replace sidewalks…

Of the replacements approved Monday, 5 are in Southeast Washington, 5 in the Northeast and 1 in the Northwest.  All will hopefully be done this year.

To find out more or to apply for the Sidewalk Replacement program just contact the Mayor’s office by phone or on line.

The Washington City Council approved two resolutions to transfer funds Monday night.

In the Fire Department budget, $6500 was moved from repair and maintenance to machines and equipments to pay for lights and equipment for the new Fire Chief vehicle.

In the City Hall budget, money was moved to pay for blinds for the clerk/treasurer’s office.

The council approved final reading of an ordinance concerning the Building Commissioner’s salary.  He’s now working for both the county and the city.  The county is reimbursing the city on their portion of the paycheck.

Also the city council approved an ordinance concerning the replat of the Alliance Commercial Subdivision.  The replat is within the current boundaries and basically combines lots in the middle section.

In patron statements, the council heard from a resident on Axtel Avenue who was complaining of the poor condition of Axtel and Mill Street.  City Department heads and the Mayor all said they will investigate the matter.

The Washington Board of Public Works and Safety accepted the low bid of 158,000 dollars for a new control valve structure as part of Phase 1 of the Water System improvement project.  It will be located in front of the old K Mart building.  It’s all part of the funds budgeted for the project.  The bid came from Van Hoy and Sons of Medora, Indiana.  The structure will help control the equalization of water pressure.
